DAS PARKHOTEL – SLEEP IN A PIPE

Hello again!

This time we are going to talk about a “hotel” that some people maybe will not like it despite it is very original.

It is located in the Ottensheim Park, about 10 km near Linz (Austria) and it is constructed from repurposed and very robust as a drain pipes.

The idea emerged from the Austrian artist Andreas Strauss that thought that it would be a good idea to recycle pipes into a kind of accommodation. This is a cheap way to provide lodge to those tourists with a low budget and that are fed up of hostels.

Das park Hotel a curious “resort” with 3 giant pipes with a comfortable double bed, a little table, a lamp, a trunk to maintain your pertinences, Wifi and a system of ventilation as a window. The toilets are in the park and if you want to breakfast in this place you can go to one of the economical restaurants that are inside the park.

To book you should access to the website, fill in the application and you will have a code to open the door. This code allow to stay maximum for 3 days and the “check in” is after 3 pm and the “check out” is before 12 am. It opens the first of May because of the climate.

There is not a fixed rate for the staying, it depends on the customers opinion but the average is situated from 7 to 20 € per room.  Do not be stingy and pay a similar amount.

One disadvantage if you are looking for peace
is that this park is quite crowded and there are concerts of DJ’s.

One advantage is that you can have a boat trip through the Danube, as this park is in its riverside. You are staying in an outdoor  hotel without neighbours than disturb you during the night.

- We would like to lodge here just to try how is to sleep in pipe and also in a park, and you?

JUMBO STAY HOSTEL - STOCKHOLM

Hello followers!

Today, in our first post, we are going to talk about an airplane that has been converted in a hotel.

Jumbo Stay, a one star hotel, was formerly an airplane since 1976, a Boeing 747-212B. It was going to be destroyed because the Swedish air company Transjet bankrupted. Then, Oscar Diös, the owner of another hotel in Uppsala (Stockholm, Sweden), decided to buy the airplane and transform it in a hotel for expand his business.

In December 2007, he gets the building permit for establishing Jumbo Stay at the entrance to Arlanda airport.
Then in January 2008, the aircraft was moved to a construction site parking where the first phase of the conversion has begun with the dismantling of the old interior and it was redecorate. The hotel was endowed with climate control and isolation.
The aircraft for 450 passengers, already converted in a hotel, was towed to the final location in front of Arlanda's Airport in Stockholm.
Finally, in 2009, the Jumbo Stay was inaugurated as a hotel.

Jumbo Stay is a spectacular landmark as a portal of the airport. It has 25 rooms with two bunks each one. There are individual rooms and shared rooms. One of the rooms is a bridal suite located in the cabin, with its own toilet and terrace. The other rooms have to share 8 toilets. All the rooms have central heating, WIFI and TV. There is a coffee on the second floor and a conference room. There is a parking for free and the breaksfast is included.

The price for one night in a shared room, for man or woman, is between 50-55 € but if you prefer not to share the room you have to pay around 110 €.

The main strategic advantages of this hotel are:
-        It is only 10 minutes from the terminal with the free shuttle bus (No 14) so if the customer has an early   flight he does not have excuses to arrive late to the check-in desk.
-          It is an original way to lodge if you are bored of traditional hotels.
-     For fans of spotting (to watch and take pictures of aircrafts landing and taking off), since December 2012, it is possible to walk along the left wing observation terrace.
-         The staff is dressed like an air hostess unlike the staff of a usual hotel.

The comments of people who have been there are very positive and they recommend it.

What do you think?
Would you mind to lodge close an airport?
Would you be disposed to pay 110 € (for an individual room) to avoid sharing the room and the toilet with unknown people?
